NextScribe is an Internet pioneer:

Its genesis was in 1994 at the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, and its mission was clarified through the composition of a strategic technology plan (in 1996-1997) for the Vatican.

Since 1997 NextScribe has conducted seminal research in partnership with both Catholic and Protestant churches.

NextScribe's mission is to exploit the potential of digital networks to give new life to classical spiritual practices, so that people will be sanctified in their communities and relationships.

NextScribe has created the Prayerbuddy community in order to implement and test the technologies and practices of the Network Centric Church.

The Future Church:

It's not centered on an inanimate building;

It's not centered on a machine printed book;

It's centered on people: on the living, individual relationships within a community, and the unceasing presence of members to one another in Christ, supporting each other in their quest to know and love God.

This is the Network Centric Church: a catalyst to the action of the Holy Spirit, facilitated by a sophisticated mobile wireless network and software supporting wise forms of spiritual community and practice.

It is a network that connects community members to one another without ceasing, even when their daily lives are physically separate; a network used to support the core of the spiritual life: daily prayer of the psalms in community, using a liturgy derived from ancient monastic practice; spiritual reading of sacred scripture; and private spiritual counsel. A network that facilitates richly human relationships: casual everyday chatting, intellectual discussion, spiritual discernment and the diversity of human communication.

The substance of the Network Centric Church is the animate love within community. The Network Centric Church is thus — in its substance — an incarnation of the Holy Spirit, received silenty in the heart and given in every day love of others.

The Network Centric Church isn't supported by a single technology, but rather by an integrated system of multiple technologies that include web-based collaboration systems and wireless devices.

NextScribe's mission to develop the Network Centric Church began in 1994. NextScribe brings to this task a multidisciplinary expertise that is unique in the world:

  • Spiritual Experience: A mission born in the purely contemplative monastic experience of the desert — informed by a 1,500 year tradition of community and spiritual life — that has been further extended by work with international, multi-denominational expressions of spiritual life and community;
  • Technological Expertise: Long term, ongoing development of the multiple components of the Network Centric Church, including:
    • systems research and architecture
    • web and database design and programming
    • internet-based collaborative systems
    • IM system design and programming
    • wireless device integration
    • digital privacy and security
    • human/computer interaction research and design;
  • Focus: a singular, long-term focus on developing technology to serve the spiritual life and community.
